Tesla Ramps Up Chip Hiring as Samsung Secures AI6 Foundry Deal

Tesla is actively recruiting semiconductor specialists to strengthen development and mass production of its next-generation AI6 chip, according to recent reports. Samsung Electronics' foundry division has reportedly won the manufacturing order, with the hiring drive seen as an effort to boost AI6 yield rates and deepen collaboration with Samsung.

Job postings show Tesla is seeking "Silicon Module Process Engineers" in the U.S., targeting candidates with expertise in lithography, vision systems, deposition, metrology, and inspection. The company is looking for both front-end and back-end process engineers to support advanced system-on-chip (SoC) development.

Industry observers note the recruitment aligns with Tesla's manpower needs under its AI6 development contract with Samsung. The move follows the successful design review of Tesla's AI5 chip, after which CEO Elon Musk said AI6 "is expected to be the best AI chip yet."

The AI6 is reportedly a high-performance system semiconductor designed for full self-driving (FSD), robotics, and data centers. Samsung signed a USD 16.5 billion wafer manufacturing contract with Tesla in July 2025—its largest foundry deal to date.

Tesla's postings also specify expertise in gate-all-around (GAA) technology, which Samsung pioneered for 3nm production in 2022. Korean industry sources expect the AI6 to adopt Samsung's 2nm GAA process, with mass production targeted for 2028 and peak output between 2029 and 2032.

Musk has previously stated that Tesla will be deeply involved in AI6 production, even personally overseeing frontline operations to accelerate progress. Candidates are expected to bring not only process development experience but also skills in yield improvement and foundry collaboration, underscoring the joint process development between Tesla and Samsung.

Samsung Foundry has recently secured multiple advanced-node orders, with analysts optimistic about a recovery in its semiconductor business as foundry losses narrow and memory sales improve.
