South Korea's Taesung (KOSDAQ: 323280), a supplier of wet process equipment for printed circuit boards (PCBs) and semiconductor substrates, has acquired a KRW 8.6 billion ($6.2 million) plant in Ansan's Banwol Industrial Complex, according to a regulatory filing on August 21.
The new facility will serve dual roles. First, it will be used to produce composite copper foil equipment and materials for secondary batteries—part of Taesung's push to secure a foothold in the fast-growing electric vehicle value chain. Second, it will function as a testing base for semiconductor plating systems, complementing the company's existing PCB equipment business.
Taesung previously sought to expand plating operations at its Cheonan site, but difficulties in obtaining environmental approval prompted the move to Ansan. By securing this dedicated facility, the company expects to shorten development cycles and strengthen quality control across both its battery and semiconductor product lines.
Looking ahead, Taesung is also preparing to extend its plating technology to advanced substrates, including glass and semiconductor package substrates, with initial results anticipated later this year. The company emphasized that while PCB equipment remains its core business, it aims to build new growth drivers in secondary battery copper foil and next-generation semiconductor materials.
