InnoScience Scores Another Legal Win Against Infineon Amid Ongoing Patent Battles

Chinese third-generation semiconductor company InnoScience has claimed another legal victory in its patent disputes with international chip giant Infineon. On May 11, China's Supreme People's Court dismissed Infineon's appeal over jurisdiction, affirming that the Suzhou Intermediate People's Court has authority over a key patent infringement case filed by InnoScience.

The lawsuit, initiated in January 2025, involves InnoScience (Suzhou) and its subsidiary suing Infineon Technologies China, Infineon Technologies Wuxi, and Suzhou Chipways Technology for infringing on two GaN (gallium nitride)-related patents. InnoScience argues that the accused products fall within the scope of its patented technologies, covering GaN power devices and nitride-based semiconductor structures. It claims all three defendants engaged in unauthorized sales and distribution activities within China.

Infineon had challenged the jurisdiction of the Suzhou court, but the motion was initially rejected by the local court and now finally by the Supreme People's Court, marking a critical step forward for InnoScience in asserting its intellectual property rights.

This win follows another high-profile victory for InnoScience earlier this year. On March 18, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) ruled in favor of the company in a dispute with California-based Efficient Power Conversion (EPC), invalidating all claims of EPC's U.S. Patent No. 7,498,294. The USPTO deemed EPC's accusations baseless, describing them as acts of unfair competition. That ruling overturned a prior ITC finding from November 2024 that had partly favored EPC, effectively ending the dispute in InnoScience's favor.

Shenzhen East Space Light Technology Co., Ltd

Founded on GaN-on-silicon technology, InnoScience operates the world's largest 8-inch GaN wafer production line and follows an IDM (Integrated Device Manufacturer) business model. Its GaN solutions are used in smartphones, consumer electronics, EVs, data centers, and industrial applications. The company has established partnerships with major brands such as OPPO, Vivo, Xiaomi, Anker, and Hesai, and its InnoGaN products are already in mass production across a variety of platforms.

As of June 30, 2024, InnoScience held 319 global patents, including 274 invention patents. Despite this IP strength, the company faces increasing legal pressure from international competitors. Infineon, for instance, has also filed lawsuits against InnoScience in the U.S. and Germany, and in July 2024 lodged a complaint with the U.S. International Trade Commission over four GaN-related patents.

Still, with two major legal victories behind it, InnoScience appears poised to continue defending its position as a global leader in GaN semiconductor technology.

As of May 9, 2025, InnoScience's market capitalization stands at HK$33.1 billion (approximately RMB 30.7 billion).
