A fire broke out on the morning of September 15 at Kyocera (TOKYO:6971) ’s Shiga Gamo plant in Higashiomi, Shiga Prefecture, Japan. Authorities confirmed that no injuries or missing persons have been reported.
According to local police and fire officials, a female employee alerted emergency services shortly before 10 a.m., reporting heavy smoke and flames on the first floor of the facility. Nine fire trucks were dispatched, and the blaze was largely extinguished within an hour and a half. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Situated in the city of Higashiomi, the Shiga Gamo plant is one of the sites operated by Kyocera’s Corporate Fine Ceramics Group. Having begun operations in 1963, it was the company’s first mass-production facility and remains a cornerstone of its domestic manufacturing network. The plant primarily handles plating operations for electronic components. While the incident caused significant smoke, officials said there was no impact on highway traffic.
