A leading Taiwan-based manufacturer of high-performance copper clad laminates (CCL) and bonding sheets, Elite Material Co., Ltd. (EMC, TPE: 2383), has signed a $300 million (approximately RMB 2.15 billion) investment agreement to expand its operations in Kunshan, Jiangsu Province. The signing ceremony for the AI high-performance CCL project took place on June 16 in Zhoushi Town, with EMC Chairman D.D. Tong, Kunshan Party Secretary Chen Liyan, and Vice Mayor Qian Xudong in attendance.
EMC is the world's top supplier of base materials for smartphone printed circuit boards, holding roughly 80% of the global market share. Its halogen-free product series has consistently ranked No. 1 in global sales for several years. The company's Kunshan facility, established in 1997, is its largest production base worldwide and has seen robust growth in recent years. Since 2019, EMC has expanded the site six times and is on track to become a CCL industry leader in China with projected annual output exceeding RMB 10 billion.
To align with the rising demand in artificial intelligence and new energy sectors, EMC plans to build a new headquarters and manufacturing base in Zhoushi. The project will focus on R&D and production of high-performance copper foil substrates designed for AI computing infrastructure. Once operational, the new facility is expected to add over RMB 6 billion in annual output. By 2027, sales of EMC's high-speed materials are projected to account for more than 50% of its global revenue.
At the event, Party Secretary Chen Liyan praised EMC's 28-year presence in Kunshan and its world-class PCB technologies. She noted that the city is focused on cultivating high-potential industries and sees AI as a core growth driver. Chen emphasized Kunshan's commitment to creating a business-friendly environment with strong support in land, talent, and services to help companies seize emerging opportunities.
Chairman Tong expressed confidence in Kunshan's pro-business environment and reaffirmed EMC's commitment to making the city its mainland China headquarters. He stated that the new investment will deepen EMC's roots in the domestic market while supporting global demand, with a focus on innovation and sustainability.
