AT&S Leads Global HDI PCB Patent Rankings with Focus on Quality over Quantity

In the electronics and microelectronics industry, innovation in intellectual property (IP) is key to long-term competitiveness. According to the latest report on AT&S (VIE: ATS)'s official website, Austrian PCB and IC substrate manufacturer AT&S has established itself as a leading driver of technological progress, holding over 1,700 granted patents worldwide.

According to a recent evaluation using the Patentsight analysis tool, AT&S has ranked No.1 in patent quality among the world's top ten high-density interconnect (HDI) PCB manufacturers for nearly two years—widening its lead over competitors.

Patentsight assesses patent quality based on market coverage, technological significance, and the impact of protected technologies on competitiveness. These elements are combined into a comprehensive index that reflects the strength of a company's patent portfolio. The strong performance of AT&S demonstrates that a focus on improving patent quality can deliver rapid results, even starting from a high baseline.

"While some competitors emphasize the number of patent filings, we've made a conscious decision to prioritize quality," said Gernot Gröber, Head of Intellectual Property at AT&S. "Our team's consistent efforts since 2019 have paid off, and we're proud to be leading the HDI patents ranking."

The latest Prismark Q4 2024 study also highlights AT&S's continuous advancement among the top 10 global HDI PCB suppliers, showing steady growth since 2016."This achievement reflects the tremendous work invested in reshaping our IP management system," Gröber added. "Through fresh ideas and innovative approaches, we've elevated our patent strategy well beyond the industry standard. As a leading HDI PCB manufacturer, AT&S now plays in the Champions League of patent excellence."
