AMD CEO Lisa Su Elected Chair of the U.S. Semiconductor Industry Association

The Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) announced on November 20 that AMD Chair and CEO Dr. Lisa Su has been elected Chair of its Board of Directors. SIA represents 99% of the U.S. semiconductor industry by revenue and nearly two-thirds of non-U.S. chip firms, making it one of the most influential trade groups in the global semiconductor ecosystem.

"We are delighted to welcome Dr. Lisa Su as SIA Chair during an exciting and consequential time for the semiconductor industry," said SIA President and CEO John Neuffer. "Lisa has pushed the boundaries of semiconductor innovation for decades and is an extremely strong and influential leader in our industry. We look forward to her leadership as we advocate for policies that promote growth and innovation and help keep America ahead in this foundational, transformative technology."

Dr. Su brings more than 30 years of experience across the semiconductor value chain. As AMD's Chair and CEO, she led the company's transformation into a global high-performance computing leader and a key supplier of advanced AI chips. Before assuming her current role, she served as AMD's chief operating officer, where she integrated the company's business units, sales, operations, and infrastructure into a unified organization focused on execution and market impact.

Prior to joining AMD, Su held leadership positions at Freescale Semiconductor (now part of NXP Semiconductors), IBM, and Texas Instruments. She holds a PhD in electrical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and received the Robert N. Noyce Award in 2020 for her groundbreaking contributions to the semiconductor industry.

"The semiconductor industry is at the heart of American innovation and essential to our economic growth and national security," Dr. Su said. "It is an honor to serve as Chair of SIA at such an important time. I look forward to working with my colleagues on the SIA Board of Directors to strengthen U.S. semiconductor competitiveness, expand our innovation foundation, and build a stronger global chip industry for years to come."

Founded in 1977 by industry pioneers including Robert N. Noyce, Jerry Sanders, Charles Sporck, Wilfred Corrigan, and John Welty, SIA has traditionally selected CEOs of leading semiconductor companies to serve one-year terms as Board Chair. The association continues to play a central role in shaping U.S. semiconductor manufacturing, design, and research policy.
