The Chip Manufacturer NXP has Leaked Customer Data

Dutch chipmaker NXP Semiconductors (Nasdaq: NXPI) has notified customers of a data breach that has led to the theft of information about them: names, email addresses, phone numbers and more.

Information about the incident was released by cybersecurity expert Troy Hunt. Published a copy of the email sent by the company to customers affected by the leak was published on the X social network

The document reads in part: “On July 14, 2023, we discovered that a certain party had received certain basic personal information, such as email address and phone numbers, from a system connected to our online portal, NXP.com.”.

The company announced this as the result of an internal investigation “No evidence was found that the data was used for fraudulent purposes.”But “As a precautionary measure, I have contacted all affected NXP.com users to ensure they are aware of and apologize for the inconvenience caused.”.

NXP did not specify how many customers were affected by the hack, but did indicate what data was likely stolen:

○ First name and last name;

○ Email address;

○ Country, city, zip code and address;

○ Work phone number;

○ Mobile number;

○ Company Name;

○ Job title;

○ preferred method of communication.

The company has warned its customers that a wave of phishing emails asking for more personal information or offering to follow a link is possible in the near future.
